Happy Sewing

I have to say one thing about the hot temps is that  I'm fortunate to be able to stay inside with the A/C on, it gives me more time to spend on sewing.  I was so tired last night to write that I'll show what I did yesterday and what I did today. I like to say that I have spent very little time outside this week and what time I am, is all about supplying the plants with water. After that I need a shower before I can do anything else. Have to wash all this sweat off, blasted humidity. Today while out n the garden I picked the last of the cabbage,  couple reds and one green. I see sauerkraut in the near future. Yesterday I finished the last block for month 13 of Farmers Wife 1930's Sampler  While out yesterday I went by the quilt shop to drop them off. I like to take the completed blocks to the shop as soon as I finish them. Don't want to be responsible for them any longer than I need to. When I came back home, decided to work

Never Too Late To Learn Something New

Starting today was the first meeting for the Block Busters created by Deb Tucker at Sager Creek Quilt Shop in Siloam Springs Arkansas. It's a free class that meets each month where we will make 2 blocks each month, one for our self's and another to be donated for charity quilts. These blocks are being made using Deb Tuckers FUNdamental tools. At this meeting today the block we made used the Tucker Trimmer. If you haven't seen or heard of one here is a link to Studio 180 Designs There was a good turn out, actually the response has been so positive that they have 3 different time slots and they are all full. Not just making the block but we had a chance to see how value combinations effects the overall look of the block. Just by looking at all the ones here is just a small taste. Like the one above, changing the dark red to the more medium floral gives its such a different feel. The Tucker Trimmer helps make perfect hour glas

What's Up 06.20.16

My what's up for today is twofold, what is up on my design wall and the other is what I was up to the past couple of days with my container veggie garden. I know I can get obsess with something when my mind gets started on something new. And that is with this garden on the porch. I know I have a large mess out in the big veggie patch. But I just do not find myself wanting to go out there and work that big space that needs a lot of work right now. But I do want fresh homegrown veggies. So after seeing what Mama did with hers, it just clicked. I've known about growing veggies in containers ever since I started gardening and I've even done a little bit in the past but for some reason the thought of the simplicity of just going out to my back porch, harvesting and taking care of vegetables sound so much more appealing than going out to the big garden daily. Now I have a big garden for crops that need to grow in large quantities for canning and preserving.

Container Gardening

With my green thumb itching like crazy and just couldn't wait to start with the container garden.  So this morning I sterilized the old containers on hand and brought out the new ones just purchased. Sterilized them with bleach water. It's a good idea to do this each time you re-use a pot. Found two more feed tubs in the garden that are used to haul weeds out with, I like these because they are not as deep as most of the black ones out in the garden and plus they're not black. Another green one like the one already on  porch with my hydrangea in it. The orange one I think will do OK.   But I will spray paint the black one that I have been using already. I got this color of paint. It says it supposed to stick to plastic, so we'll see.  Think it looks pretty good after one coat, came close to the color of clay pots. Finding, cleaning and drilling holes took a little bit this morning and by the time I was done

Little Rambles

Went to Tulsa today to get my hair done, had it colored and cut. Looking good. Now I'm not a photogenic persons and most of my pictures  turn out poorly but if I do get a descent one, I'll share. Did a few  errands while I was in town by getting some potting soil and a couple new pots.  I what to plant some veggies in containers on my back porch like I saw Mamma at mamas mercantile  do here. That sounds like a good idea especially for the lettuce and things that I would use often in the kitchen. You see my garden is out there. Let's put it this way... it takes me five minutes to get to the garden back, so it would be a lot more convenient to have some veggies on the back porch. Plus it's getting me ready for my old-age when I can't be gardening like I do now and I'll just be container gardening. I forgot to tell you about the snake yesterday. When I went into the hen house to let the girls out, there was no sign of the snake. It must of foun

Today

I have been home now for a little over a week and I can say I finally feel like things are back to normal. Funny how sometimes you need a space of time to get adjusted to your routine after being gone for so long. And one of my bad routines, maybe not bad but I could be utilizing my time better, is I will check my blog in the morning then check my blog list and I'll start reading and then before you know it I'm surfing the web and before you know it I have been on my iPad for over an hour. It's the time of the year that makes it a bad thing. Because if I need to be doing anything outside should be first thing in the morning when it's the coolest. And it's not saying much as far as being the coolest, kids right now it's 80° humidity is 85% and the dewpoint is like 75. It's like living in the tropics.  I did braved the outside long enough to let the chickens out the henhouse and check on anything that needed to be harvest today like some blueberries, cab
